Reiki for Relationships
Online Reiki sessions for when things feel strained with a partner, family member or friend, or when you are getting over heartbreak.
Reiki and Your Relationships
Our relationships with partners, family, friends and colleagues affect how we feel every day. Old hurts, poor communication and resentment can create distance and lead to the same arguments again and again.
At Latha Reiki Healing, Grandmaster Srilatha offers Reiki for Relationships. In the Reiki tradition, these sessions are used to ease emotional hurt, soften resentment and help you feel more open. People come to her when they are healing from heartbreak, trying to improve a relationship they are in, or getting ready to meet someone new.
From Grandmaster Srilatha's Practice
“Over five years of practice, people in Hyderabad and elsewhere have come to me with heartbreak, family rifts, strain in a marriage, or the slow drift that distance creates. What I hear most often is, ‘I have tried talking, and nothing changes.’ Often the hurt sits below words, in resentment, fear or an old attachment to the past. A Reiki session can help someone feel calm enough for a real conversation to begin. It doesn't replace counselling, and I am always glad when clients have that support as well.”
What Research Says About Relationships
Research consistently links the quality of our relationships to life satisfaction and health. The Harvard Study of Adult Development, which has followed participants for decades, found that close relationships, more than money or fame, are what keep people happy throughout their lives.
Relationships can also be a major source of stress and hurt. The American Psychological Association highlights how closely our relationships are tied to our well-being. Couples research by the Gottman Institute has identified four communication patterns (criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling) that can predict the end of a relationship.
Relationship psychologists stress emotional connection, openness and the ability to repair after conflict. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and similar approaches highlight the importance of secure attachment bonds. Reiki can sit alongside these approaches as a quiet way of working with feelings that are hard to reach by talking alone.
How Reiki Practitioners See Relationships
In the Reiki tradition, every relationship has an energetic side: unspoken expectations, and what practitioners call energetic cords connecting us to other people. Healthy connections are thought to nourish both people, while strained ones can leave you drained.
Issues practitioners commonly work with include:
- Codependency, where one person feels drained or controlled by another
- Old hurts that make it hard to open up, which practitioners link to the heart chakra
- Patterns from childhood or past relationships that repeat in current ones
- Difficulty expressing needs, setting boundaries or saying hard things, linked to the throat chakra
- Growing apart when one person changes and the other doesn't
- Resentment and anger that build up over time
The HeartMath Institute reports that the heart generates the body's strongest electromagnetic field, extending several feet beyond the body, and suggests this field carries emotional information that others pick up on without realising. These ideas are still debated, but they are close to how Reiki practitioners think about the energy between people.
What Clients Say
Client testimonials often mention finding "balance and peace" (Srividya Chepuri) after sessions. Reiki is not a substitute for couples counselling or family therapy. In the Reiki tradition, it is used to ease the emotional strain that affects how we relate to others, which can make forgiveness and better communication easier.
Things clients have told Grandmaster Srilatha they noticed include:
- Old arguments with a partner or family member losing some of their heat
- Finding it easier to forgive and let go of grudges
- Feeling more able to open up
- Fewer reactive arguments
- Recovering from heartbreak and feeling ready to love again
- Setting boundaries without feeling guilty
Attachment Patterns and Reiki
Attachment research, begun by psychologists John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, shows that early experiences with caregivers create internal "working models" that shape our adult relationships. This research describes the core attachment styles: secure, anxious, avoidant and disorganised.
In Reiki practice, insecure patterns such as fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting or pulling away emotionally are understood to be held in our energy too. Reiki sessions are used to help:
- Release hurts from early relationships
- Comfort the "inner child" who still fears rejection or being left
- Feel safer being close to others
- Notice the habit of choosing unavailable or unsuitable partners
- Balance independence and closeness
Decades of attachment research in psychology link a secure sense of connection to better mental health and greater life satisfaction. Reiki is not part of that research, but its deep relaxation can sit alongside therapy and help you approach relationships from a calmer, more open place.
How Reiki Sessions Can Support Your Relationships
-
Easing old hurts
Pain, resentment or hurt from past or current relationships can weigh on you. In the Reiki tradition, sessions focus on releasing these feelings, particularly through the heart chakra (love, connection) and sacral chakra (emotional closeness). Clients often say this makes forgiveness feel more possible.
-
Changing how you respond
If certain relationships always leave you tense or defensive, you may find yourself repeating the same reactions. Feeling calmer can help you respond with more patience, and that can change the tone of a relationship over time.
-
Being open to healthier relationships
Some practitioners apply the law of attraction to relationships, believing that clearing your own negativity draws more loving connections to you. This is a belief rather than a proven effect. What clients more often notice is that they feel readier to choose well and to put effort into the relationships they already have.
-
Clearer communication
In Reiki practice, the throat chakra is linked with expressing yourself. Srilatha gives it particular attention when a client finds it hard to say what they need, or to listen without getting defensive.
-
Less stress, more room to forgive
Conflict is stressful. A relaxing session can leave you less reactive, with more room to forgive others and yourself, which helps break cycles of blame.
-
Focusing on what you want
You can set an intention for a session, such as mending a family rift, growing closer to a partner or setting healthy boundaries. Reiki can help you get clear about what you want; the conversations and choices are still yours.
