Tarot and Reiki in One Session
How a reading and a Reiki session can work together
From Grandmaster Srilatha's Practice in Hyderabad
“I offer both Tarot and Reiki, and over the years I have found they sit well together. The cards help a person look at what is going on. The Reiki that follows gives them time to rest with it. All of this happens online, and this article describes how I usually put the two together.”
Seeing the Problem, Then Working on It
People usually come to me feeling stuck with work, a relationship or a decision. A Tarot reading can help them see the situation from a different angle. Reiki then gives them quiet time to settle and, in the Reiki tradition, to release some of what is holding them back.
Put simply: the reading is for reflection, and the Reiki is for rest and release.
Why Tarot and Reiki Work Well Together
What Tarot offers
- A clearer view of what is happening
- A chance to notice patterns you may have missed
- Some guidance on possible next steps
- A sense of when to act and when to wait
- A fresh way of looking at a hard situation
What Reiki offers
- Deep rest and relaxation
- In the Reiki tradition, release of the blocks the reading points to
- Attention to the chakras linked with the issue
- A calmer state for making changes
- Time to let the reading sink in
How they fit:
I think of Tarot as a map that shows where things feel stuck, and Reiki as the time we then spend on those places.
What a Combined Session Looks Like
The Tarot Reading
We start with the reading. You share your question or the area that is troubling you, and Grandmaster Srilatha reads the cards. The reading usually looks at:
- What is influencing the situation
- Where you seem to be stuck
- What may need to be let go of
- Possible ways forward
Linking the Reading to the Reiki
Based on the cards, Grandmaster Srilatha decides which chakras to give attention to. For example:
- If the reading is about money worries, the Reiki focuses on the root chakra (security, grounding)
- If it is about a relationship, the focus is the heart chakra
- If self-doubt comes up, the focus is the solar plexus (confidence)
The Reiki Session
Next comes a distance Reiki session focused on what came up in the reading, rather than a general one. You simply rest wherever you are.
Srilatha is a Grandmaster (Level 21) with over five years of experience, and she keeps the session centred on the areas the reading pointed to.
Afterwards
At the end, Srilatha shares what she observed. You usually leave with:
- A few practical steps based on the reading
- Simple practices or affirmations to use at home
- A clearer idea of what to do next
A General Example
Unsure About a Career Change
Say someone is torn between a secure job and starting something of their own. The reading might bring up fear about money alongside a real wish to try something new.
The Reiki would then focus on the root chakra (security) and the solar plexus (confidence), so they can think about the choice from a calmer place. The decision, and any practical or financial planning, stays with them.
This is a general illustration, not a specific client's story.
What Research Can and Can't Tell Us
Tarot and Reiki are spiritual practices, and I don't claim science proves they work together. Some research does touch on parts of the experience:
Neuroplasticity and New Perspectives
The American Psychological Association describes neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to form new connections throughout life. Many clients find that seeing a situation from a new angle, as Tarot invites, makes change feel more possible.
The relaxation of Reiki then gives you a calmer state in which to try something different.
The Heart-Brain Connection
HeartMath Institute, a non-profit research organisation, reports that heart–brain "coherence" is associated with clearer intuitive perception. Many clients find that the calm of a Reiki session helps them receive Tarot insights more clearly.
Clients often say that being relaxed makes it easier to take in a reading.
A Shared Energy Framework
Both Tarot and Reiki work within an energy-and-intuition framework. We're honest that this "biofield" is a spiritual concept rather than a proven scientific one. The NCCIH notes there's no scientific evidence for such an energy field.
What clients value is the experience: Tarot offers reflective insight, while Reiki offers deep relaxation.
Having a Clear Intention
Decades of goal-setting research show that specific, clear goals lead to better performance than vague intentions (Locke & Latham, 2002). Tarot can help you clarify what you want, and Reiki can help you approach it from a calmer place.
A session can be a good time to get clear on what you actually want.
Who Might Find a Combined Session Useful
If you feel stuck
You know something needs to change but can't see what. The reading gives you something to think about, and the Reiki gives you time to rest with it.
If you face a big decision
A job change, a relationship, a move to a new city. Some people like to reflect with the cards and then settle their nerves with Reiki before deciding.
If a pattern keeps repeating
Understanding why something keeps happening is a start. In the Reiki tradition, the session that follows is a chance to work on letting it go.
